Well then, after finishing my Kübelrod I felt like building another VW kit. I had a Hasegawa Panel Van (Moon-issue) in my stash and ripped the plastic to check out what to do with it!
After surfin' the net for a while trying to get some inspiration I decided to backdate the Van to an early 50's Barndoor Van and give it some updated chassies components like Porsche 911 front and rear suspension and....a 911 flat 6 Porsche boxer engine, also from a 911.
Since I really don't like building engines or chassies my plan was to make this one a curbside, just like the stock Hasegawa Van.
I had an old Porsche 911 curbside chassie ffrom Fujimi laying around but it was lack of suspension parts. A good friend donated a complete chasie, but I'm a bit on the "cheap side" and used the Porsche suspension parts as masters for a scratchbuilding attemt which came out pretty OK I'd say.
There's still lotsa bodywork to do but the chassie is almost done x-cept for some remaing work on the rear suspension and the exhaust-pipes.
First, a drawing of how I hope it'll turn out once finished:
This is the Kit I started with:
Fujimi Porsche chassie:
To make sure the Van sits real low in front I raised the front part of the floorpan about 4" in scale:
It'll have really modern seats for maximum comfort, these are from the Revell Nasca M12:
Had to mock it up to check the stance:
Some of the bodywork:
And some progress on the suspension parts:
Stay tuned folks.....
