During a 5 week periods over Christmas and New Yeras eve I toook part in a "live" model kit challenge. Every member got a 1970 Camaro and we were allowed to use engine and wheels from any other kit along with plastic card and evergreen rods. Otherwise we had to use what was in the box!
I built mine as a classic lowrider using wire-wheels from Pegasus or Hopping Hydro (not quite sure
). The engine comes from some old AMT Chevy and is an inline 6 cylinder! The roof had a large part cut out over the drivers compartment and replaced by a blue tinted clear pice of plastic. Rear window was also replaced with tinted blue clear plastic. I took a large pice out of the hood as well, then found a patterned clear blue plastic from an old box which had been containing grapes!
I changed the front and made new park-lights under the bumperettes. The taillights got custom built lenses with chromed ribs. Interiorwise I made a console for the rear seat with an arm holding a DVD--screen. The dashboard got a "bar-shelf" made with small pieces of mirror and 4 glasses and a flask made from stretched clear sprue. In the ceiling I scratchbuilt a chrystal chandalier from a piece of plastic card and some stretched clear sprue. The "chain" steering-wheel was all scratchbuilt using scrap plastic and a piece of silvercolored thread.
The chassie was kept mostly stock with the exhaust modified to go along with the inline 6 engine. Suspension was heavily dropped front and rear.
In all, I guess I put justabout 60 hours in this and because of that the quality of the build isn't very good! But I sure had vary fun doing this and it was also kind of an experiment to see if some of my ideas really worked, which they did
